The Rapid Valley Fire District is a governmental board that controls aspects of the fire tax levy in its area. The Fire District is a public board and follows public meeting laws as defined by South Dakota Codified law and it’s own bylaws.
The board is a collection of 5 elected trustees who must live inside the fire district boundaries. The board meetings are open to the public and the public is invited to attend at their leisure. Generally the board meetings are held on the 3rd Tuesday of the month at 5:00 Pm at the Rapid Valley Fire Station. Agendas and Minutes of previous meetings and other district records are available upon request of any member of the public. Generally any record requests can be satisfied in short order after the request is received.
The Board does have an annual meeting which is always in the 1st quarter of the year. A legal notice of this meeting is always published in a legal news paper defined by the Pennington County Board of Commissioners.
The Rapid Valley Fire District’s newest fire station located at 3760 Reservoir Road is financed by the USDA’s Office of Rural Development.
